High Performance Team
Athletes selected from the respective JRW and JRM High Performance Camps will make up the High Performance Team that will represent the US Junior Program at the 2016 USRowing Club National Championships that will be held July 13-17, 2016, in Bethel, Ohio.
Last year, there was record number of participants with a total of 2,100 rowers that entered the five-day competition, which was nearly double the number of expected participants. In total, we can expect 100 clubs making up 1,431 entries in 69 events.
Members of this team, although Juniors by age, will be using this as a development opportunity to race at a very high level and having the chance to practice lessons learned during the camp program. The focus on how to train, increasing their technical skill set and learning how to prepare physically and mentally for international competition begins here.
As part of this, all athletes will be “racing up” divisions to race older more experienced athletes. Typically they will compete in Intermediate and Senior events that are typically competed by college age or older athletes. It is this level of competiton that, if they continue on this path, will be similar to the size and speed of the international competition they will see at Junior Worlds.
